Draikan was the king of the dark elves of Taman Busuk, an underground city in the depths of Krynn. He was a cruel and ambitious tyrant, who dreamed of conquering the surface and avenging himself on the light elves who had exiled him for his crimes. To achieve his goal, he sought the power of the chromatic dragons, allying himself with the Red Dragon Lord, Malys.

However, his plan was thwarted by a group of heroes who infiltrated his realm and freed the slaves who worked in his mines. Among them was Laurana, the princess of the Qualinesti elves, who was the sister of his former love, Tanis. Draikan confronted her in a duel to the death, but was defeated by her courage and her faith in Paladine, the god of light. Before dying, Draikan cursed Laurana and her people, swearing that he would return to haunt them from beyond the grave.
